Shelter are today launching Brokering Change; a new, innovative fundraising initiative aimed at Legal and General mortgage brokers.

The exclusive scheme asks mortgage brokers to donate a suggested £1 of the procuration fee from every mortgage that they complete to the housing and homelessness charity Shelter.

Brokers who sign up will receive materials including certificates, use of the Brokering Change logo to promote their Social Responsibility activity to their customers and regular updates from Shelter on how the money is helping homeless and badly housed people in the UK.

Brokering Change is the first and only scheme of its kind in the country and aims to raise money to help the hundreds of thousands of people across the country living in fear of eviction or repossession and those without a home to call their own.

The scheme is being officially announced today by Stephen Smith, Director Housing & Public Affairs, Legal & General, Terry McCutcheon, Managing Director at the Finance Planning Group and Campbell Robb, Chief Executive of Shelter through a special video that will be hosted on the Legal and General website from today.

Stephen Smith, Director, Housing and External Affairs at Legal & General Network said: "For every person helped to buy or rent a property, there is someone else living in fear of eviction or repossession, and many thousands more who have no permanent place to call home.

"Brokering Change is a simple and easy way for mortgage brokers to make a real difference and we hope all of our brokers will sign up to this important scheme and help broker real change for those in housing need."

Campbell Robb, Chief Executive of Shelter said: "We are extremely grateful for Legal & General's support over the last two years and are thrilled to be launching this exciting new scheme with them today.

"At Shelter we know only too well how many people are facing a daily struggle to keep a roof over their head and how many more have lost their home altogether. The money raised through this scheme will make a real difference, ensuring we can help as many people as possible in these difficult times."
